Precision Farming Education on the Web

To develop a web-based course providing free public access to precision agriculture technology. Precision agriculture involves the use of spatial information, overhead photography, satellite technology and computer software. It can enable farmers to make "micro-applications" of water, fertilizer and pesticide.

Treatment of Flushed Dairy Manure and Energy Production in an Anaerobic/Aerobic Lagoon System

To capture biogases emitted from dairy lagoons that hold wastewater left over from daily washing of stalls and walkways. Project involves placing a plastic tarp over the lagoon and funneling biogases into a collection system. As the methane is collected, it not only prevents odors but also provides a renewable resource for use in generating electricity.

Effects of Varying Initial Implant on Growth and Performance, Carcass Characteristics and Meat Tenderness in Holstein Steers

To test the temporal effect of initial implant exposure in feedlot Holstein steers. Specific responses to be measured include 1) effect on growth and efficiency characteristics; (2) influence on quality grade, yield grade, dressing percent and ribeye area; and 3) the effect of implant timing on meat tenderness.

The Contribution of Dairy Foods to Nutrient Intakes and Health in the United States
